On the 8th June Worlds Ocean Day was celebrated. Four leading organic brands, Neal’s Yard Remedies, Pai, Green People and Botanical Brands sent a letter to the UK’s Prime Minister, David Cameron, advising the UK Government to take a lead on the matter with World Ocean Day and ban microbeads in products. World leaders such as Barack Obama brought the Microbead-Free Waters Act of 2015 into US law earlier this year, which means that the production of wash-off products enclosing microbeads will gradually stop by July 2018.
More than 300,000 petitions were handed in. The petition originated as part of a shared campaign between the organisation Beat The Microbead, Environmental Investigation Agency, Fauna & Flora and Marine Conservation Society.
Below is six reasons why you should get rid of products that contain microbeads. To raise awareness of World Oceans Day share this post and use the hashtag #BanTheBead!
